Downtown is the hardest part of Toronto to find cheap gas, simply because there is so little of it — high land values mean fewer stations per square kilometre than anywhere else in the city, and the ones that remain along Front Street, Jarvis, Spadina and Bay tend to price toward the top of the city range. If you drive in the core, the trick is less about finding a bargain on every block and more about knowing which of the handful of stations is cheapest on a given day before you pull in.
Drivers downtown often do better by topping up on the way in or out — the stations near the Gardiner on-ramps, along Lake Shore Boulevard, or just north toward Bloor are usually a few cents cheaper than the ones buried in the Financial District.
