How to read today's cheapest gas list
Toronto gas prices are not uniform across the city. On any given afternoon, the spread between the cheapest and most expensive regular gasoline at full-service stations inside the ring road is usually 8–15 cents per litre, and the gap can widen further when major chains adjust pricing on different schedules. The list below ranks the twenty stations currently posting the lowest regular-grade prices in our database, refreshed hourly from a Canadian fuel price feed and a small amount of manual moderation.
Before you drive across town to the cheapest pump, do a little arithmetic. Saving 5¢/L on a 50-litre fill is $2.50. A typical Toronto sedan burns roughly 9 litres of fuel per 100 km, so a 10 km round-trip detour costs you about 0.9 litres of gas — currently $1.50 to $1.70 in real money. That makes the detour worth it, but barely. A 20 km detour for the same 5¢ saving is a net loss. The "Distance" column and the map (toggle on mobile, sidebar on desktop) are there so you can make that call quickly.
When Toronto prices typically move
Most major chains in Toronto — Shell, Petro-Canada, Esso, Pioneer — adjust their posted prices at least once a day, and sometimes twice. The most common pattern we observe is a Wednesday or Thursday move, often timed to the wholesale rack price published by Ontario refiners earlier in the week. Prices also tend to firm up heading into long weekends (especially the August Civic Holiday weekend and the Labour Day weekend) and to soften during the weeks between holidays. Costco and Canadian Tire gas bars, which operate on different commercial models, often lag the majors by a day or two and are usually a few cents below them.
Two caveats worth flagging before you read the list. First, prices on this page come from a feed that updates hourly; an actual pump price can change between refreshes, especially for the major chains. Always confirm the cents-per-litre on the pump display before you start fuelling. Second, our coverage focuses on regular 87-octane gasoline. If you drive a vehicle that requires premium or uses diesel, click through to a station's detail page to see the full price grid where available.
